As national scrapbook day winds down, I find myself reflecting on my scrapbook beginnings. Like most crafters, I started out with scrapbooking, but the reason I started is probably very different.
The exact day was December 3, 2004. The problem was that for the past week I was in an increasingly amount of pain. It started on a Monday as a little patch of numbness on my right forearm and right ear. A week later, I went for an MRI. My doctor walked, put both hands on my shoulders.
“You have MS.”
I was still in school; all alone. I called my parents, who were hundreds of miles away. I tried calling my friends, but they were in class or working.
I eventually got a hold of an old acquaintance. I walked to her dorm room and it was the best thing that I could have done. She didn’t let me sit there and cry. She distracted me. She introduced me to one of her hobbies: scrapbooking. I have been hooked every since.
I am now sitting in her living room, almost a decade later, babysitting her two children. As I watch her children sleeping, I can’t help but wonder how my life would be different if she wasn’t there for me that day. I realize could sit here and play out the scenarios, but it won’t make a difference. All I know is that I am so happy with my life and in plan enjoying what it has to offer.
I hope you all have a wonderful evening.
