One Year Anniversary

Green mustache

As of today, it has been one year since I started this Crafty Accounting journey. I know everyone says this, but the time has really flown by.  While this is a small venture, I have been able to learn a few useful things along the way:

  • You must love what you are doing:  There is a lot of work involved, no matter what the size of your business. If aren’t truely passionate about what you producing, then it’s not worth it.

  • Not every customer will be happy: No matter how hard you try, at one point you will have an unhappy customer.  This was a very hard lesson for me and I was practically devastated when it happened.  The important thing is that you take it as a learning opportunity and give them the best customer service. You can quickly turn the experience into a positive one.

  • You are representing more than yourself: When you have on Etsy, you are apart of a greater community of artists, craftsmen, and other business owners.  The lovely part about Etsy is that it gives people all over the world an opportunity to buy unique items, but one bad experience and it could tarnish the represents of yourself and the Etsy community.

  • You will never have enough time for everything (at once):  At my full time job, I have pictures of some of the pieces I created and a little journal to store ideas that come up throughout the day.  I will get excited about getting in my crafty room and losing myself it a swirl of paper, inks, and stamps.  The real world hits and then by the time I have a chance to get into the craft room, it’s an hour past bedtime.  I’ve learned that I have a ton of ideas and just not enough time to do it all at once and that is okay.  Sure, I may have wanted to get a couple more cards created for a holiday, but there is always next year!

I know there is so much more for me to learn, but I look forward to the challenge.  As I reflect on what I have accomplish this year, I want to  thank you to all my friends and family that have helped me along the way.  I could not have done it without their love and support.
